Caution
I have been advised by my computer savvy friends to be wary of emails and solicitations for donations to Haiti. No matter the tragedy there is always someone willing to take advantage of the kindness of our people and to swindle us. Do not open emails about Haiti. Instead go directly to a reputable site such as the Red Cross (as suggested here) to be sure your money is going to the right place.

Getting the Aid
The Red Cross does a pretty good job of converting donations into physical aid and assistance although even they have occasionally had problems with this. I understand that the 66 million that was raised by the telethon is having problems dispersing the funds. But many watchdogs are on the case so hopefully the donations will end up in the proper hands.
